Scores of child care centers were damaged or destroyed when Hurricanes
Rita and Katrina struck the Gulf Coast in 2005. One of the first steps to
recovery is getting those centers back up-and-running, so children
have a safe and nurturing place to stay while their parents are at work.
The United Way is spearheading an effort to link
people and organizations (Child Care Companions) with child care centers,
family child care homes, and other human service providers (Child Care
Companion Beneficiaries) in the Gulf Coast to help them get back on their feet.
The Child Care Companion initiative is part of Operation Caring
Community, a system-wide initiative undertaken by United Way to help
people living in communities that were devastated by Hurricanes Rita and
Katrina.
If you would like to be a Companion to a child care centers, family child
care homes, and other human service providers in the Gulf Coast area
that still needs assistance because of damages sustained by Hurricanes
Rita or Katrina, click on the Companion Information tab to the Left/right
to find out more about Companion responsibilities, or go directly to
Beneficiary Information to identify the center you would like to assist.
Thank you for helping!
