In June 2022, Melissa Nelson was named President and CEO of United Way of Florida, a collaborative organization that serves Florida’s 28 local United Ways and is part of the United Way Worldwide global network.

Prior to joining UWOF, she was President and CEO of United Way of St. Johns County which serves Putnam and St. Johns County.  During her 9 years with UWSJC, Melissa became passionate about the mission of United Way and the power created when residents, businesses, government and nonprofits come together to meet the most pressing social service issues in our local communities.

Prior to working with United Way, her background in nonprofit management includes experience working with local Chamber of Commerce organizations in Florida and Pennsylvania; and within the professional association setting with the American Institute of Architects and the Orange County Medical Society both in Orlando, Florida.

Growing up on Amelia Island and spending most of her adult life in, and around, St. Augustine, Melissa is a confirmed beach lover and, as a graduate of the University of Florida, she remains a Gator fan regardless of her home address.  She and her husband Brad are parents to 25-year-old twins.
